“This is the time for the virtue of your breath to be in control of yourself.

This is the moment you have to create all power within yourself.

Concentrate on the breath.

Feel God within you with each breath.

Feel the universe around you with each sound.”

Yogi Bhajan – 8/8/2000

New Prosperity or Old Karma
Celebrate the New

In August (8), we can imagine being at the crosspoint of the lines in between the 8, where the path becomes narrower and the two circles of the number meet. There is a decision to make, which more than concretely in the matter, is a decision concerning our attitude and intention.

8 + 2020 = 1+2=3. There might still be the impulse to give a form and a summary explanation to what happened to us during this year, dismissing the opportunity offered and locking it up in a new belief system constructed on old habits. This will unleash new karmic waves, repeating the past until we will be ready to let it go and understand the lessons it offered to us.

Or, we have a chance to dive into the flow of what it is and how it evolves, and benefit from new perspectives. It can be a cycle of new prosperity or of old Karma. We have the choice. The time comes when the fruits are ripe but we still need to know which ones to reap.

Living in the material world of opposites, labels, and classifications, we often identify ourselves by the roles we play, forgetting that these aspects shift and change throughout our lives. As children, we anticipated role changes eagerly in our rush to grow up. Though fairy tales led us to believe that “happily ever after” was a final destination. Like actors on the stage of the world, our different roles are just costumes that we inhabit and then shed. Each role we play is just another facet through which to understand ourselves and the nature of the universe.

The incertitude of the future makes us look back and some grief might arise in presence of old memories of a past which seems now to have gone forever. It requires non-attachment to leave behind an old shape to which we got used. The desire to regain control and make plans for the future might get stronger when we get attached to what was before. The confusion increases as we try to take control over our reality using old tools which are no longer effective.

But when we anchor ourselves in the truth of our being, that core of spirit within us, we can choose to embrace the new roles as they come. Thanks to a fresh perspective on life, we can enjoy the new, playing one of the many roles we can take in this life. We allow ourselves to change, trying new and different things, knowing that the core of who we really are remains the same.

In order to redefine our plans shaping them according to the reality we face, we need flexibility and a good grasp of our resources and the best use of the potential at our disposal. Without judging, evaluating, comparing, or analyzing, we have a chance to see beyond the limitations of our automatic mode of functioning.

It can be helpful to give space to that grief and bid a fond farewell to the role that we are leaving before we welcome the new. This is the purpose of ceremonies in cultures throughout the world and across time. August can be a good time to create our own celebration and ritual to welcome the new.
