KRI Level 1

Purpose of the Level 1

• Deepen your practice of Kundalini Yoga and get tools and knowledge for your ongoing growth.

• Learn to teach a Kundalini Yoga class, the responsibility of the teacher and the Code of Ethics.

• Connect to a lineage of yogis whose teachings are from a thousand year old tradition.

• Experience a personal transformative process within a committed group.

• Obtain a certificate recognized worldwide (Kundalini Yoga Teaching certified by the Kundalini Research Institute).

• Get the chance to develop a long lasting relationship with fellow students and an international community.

Specificities of our school

Our work is based on several fundamental elements:

  • Respect for the Tradition. We consider that without REVERENCE for where we come from there is no possibility of growing on a healthy basis because the reactivity of the subconscious will always take over. We respect the millennial lineage that has brought these teachings to us today. The gratitude of receiving this spiritual influx brings us closer to the wisdom of those great souls who have lived and integrated the teachings through the ages.
  • Collective intelligence. We are a TEAM of teachers: 3 lead trainers + a team of associate trainers. This allows us to reflect on a wider range of teaching and allows students to not get hung up on the personality of a teacher but rather on the essence of the teachings. This collective intelligence always emerges within the groups thanks to residential situations and participation in morning practices (sadhana) and daily tasks (karma yoga).
  • Intuition and creativity. The teachings are never presented in the same way twice, they respond to the ENERGY OF THE INSTANT and the burning questions of the students. The kriyas are selected according to the themes that emerge from the group. The content is adapted according to the specific needs that are identified within the team of trainers. The manual is used as a basic resource for the participants but we use it very little as a support to avoid that the understanding is only mental but a lived experience.
  • Pedagogical follow-up. Our training is HUMAN SIZE: it is possible to interact, ask questions and the teachers are accessible. There is a follow-up in study groups between modules which allows for continuity and integration of the transformation that has taken place during the intensive weeks. An individual interview with a lead trainer takes place at the beginning and end of the training.
  • ASHRAM type immersion. We privilege PHYSICAL PRESENCE and full weeks for the modules. This allows us to dive much deeper into the transformation of the subconscious mind and to build strong bonds of trust within the group.
  • Live music. As much as possible we play the music live with the musicians present.

“Celestial grounding, this is a fair interpretation of what my Level 1 Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training has been like. For the past 11 months, I’ve experienced the most cathartic, life affirming, transformational, soul-reviving practice of coming home. Like nothing else I’ve ever experienced. My heart is so full of love. It is with such gratitude and love that I thank my teachers Siri Hari Kaur, Sat Sarbat Kaur and Satmukh Singh, you continue to inspire and uplift me in so many ways. I love you! I highly recommend their influence in your life.”

– Priya Dhyan Kaur, Australia

Certification & Diploma

Currently, KRI (Kundalini Research Institute) is the official international training organization that promotes  and oversees teacher training programs in 52 countries, graduating over 2000 new Kundalini Yoga teachers annually.

The Level One KRI Aquarian Teacher Training Program consists of a 220 hour program (180 hours in class; 40 home practice) with a comprehensive well-organized course textbook called “The Aquarian Teacher” .

Graduates of Level One earn the title of KRI Certified Instructor of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®, are registered with the International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association (IKYTA) and fulfill the Yoga Alliance RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) 200-hour requirement. The primary regulatory body for Kundalini Yoga teachers is IKYTA, not Yoga Alliance.

Becoming a trainer for a Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training Program takes years if not decades of practice and study. Potential trainers must have taught over 1000 hours of Kundalini Yoga, completed a Level One and 5 Level Two Modules totaling over 500 hours of study, and have spent several years mentoring with existing trainers. Potential new trainers are assessed by an international certification committee on their competence and maturity as teachers before being designated as associate, professional or lead trainers by KRI. On average it takes about eight years of mentoring before one is approved as a “Lead” trainer.
